How Realistic Is Your Self Image?, To What Extent Does It Reflect Your Real Self?

How realistic is your self image?
To what extent does it reflect your real self?

Self-image is how you perceive yourself. It is an important element in the idea of self-concept, which is the overarching term for anything that has to do with the self. If you have a realistic image of yourself, then it means how you perceive yourself, internally and externally, is closely attached to what you are in real life. This is of course differentiated from how others see you.

On the other hand, if you have a bloated self-image, it means you are looking at yourself more than what your capabilities are. If you see yourself less than what you really are, then you have a reduced sense of self image.

Elements of Self Image

  1. how you see yourself
  2. your interpretation of how others see you
  3. how you would like to be

The bigger the gap is between your perception of the self versus your real self and your ideal self, the more you have to work on. But of course, you must first accept who you are and who you are not, before you can work at improving yourself.
